CNN Amplifies El-sayed’s Diversion—and Helps Him Dodge The Demand To Reject Hatred

Lulu Garcia-Navarro, hosting CNN, NewsNight, Oct. 30, 2026.

Regarding Haley Stevens’ demand that El-Sayed denounce Hasan Piker’s uncle, Cenk Uygur [both Islamic bigots], for [falsely] blaming grocery prices on [Jews] aid to Israel, Stevens graciously gave El-Sayed an opportunity to reject hate, which he refused to do.

A. She equated the epidemic of Goliath antisemitism with what the Kamala Harris campaigner Mike Nellis kept talking about and defined as “Islamophobia.” She omitted the serious Muslim Brotherhood questions and denied that El-Sayed’s letter supported the MB.

B. She took the time to replay an audio clip of El-Sayed in which he (peddled the dual Pallywood buzzwords including the GenoLIE and) deceptive El Sayed begins with: "You know, it's not about Israel. It's about the opportunity cost of our tax dollars that get sent over there," but he spoke only about money to Israel that is not "spent here." Not about aid Arabs or aid ro Ukraine for that matter, which exposes El-Sayed’s obvious insincerity about “spending the money here” and masks his raw, scary Israelophobia obsession, so obvious.

What wasn't emphasized enough on CNN:

   - (1) The fact that aid to Arabs - $6.7 billion - surpasses aid to Israel by almost double.

   - (2) The fact that this amounts to just one-twentieth of one percent of the federal budget.

[American benefit of aiding Israel: Supporting Israel is not just about helping another country. It is about investing in a strategic ally that purchases American military equipment, supports American manufacturing jobs, collaborates with American scientists and defense companies, shares intelligence, develops advanced technologies, and contributes to regional security. The United States benefits economically through defense contracts and trade, technologically through joint innovation, and strategically through a capable partner in a critical region. The real question isn't simply how much aid America gives Israel, but what America receives in return and what it might cost to lose that partnership].

   - (3) The sneaky deceptive ad portrays American weapons as tools for supposedly just-killing Palestinian Arabs without mentioning the defensive weapons to save lives [- not to mention "Palestine" Islamic regime or Iran's Hezbollah using civilians causing their deaths on their genocidal wars].

   - (4) The fact that there is no real connection to grocery prices.

C. Garcia-Navarro chose to pick a cheap-shot comment from a viewer about Haley Stevens: “As a woman, I know how petty we can be when we are bitter.”

Stevens is sincere. Once again, the seriousness of this Nazi-like ad, was not emphasized.

Last exchanges:

'GARCIA-NAVARRO: Wait a second. Just to that point. I don't doubt her sincerity on the cause and the issue. You know.

Why should I? But, is this really the moment?

WRIGHT: Yes. I think so. It shouldn't be mutually exclusive. It should be the moment when it's politically convenient to stand up for the things that you believe in.

NELLIS: Can I say something? These are the last four days that anyone's going to care what Haley Stevens has to say, so she's gotten the most out of it.

GARCIA-NAVARRO: Oh. Okay, that's a little harsher than even these comments.'

It's rather a dumb question about Stevens' "timing" instead of acknowledging her sincere stand against hate. A reminder: The analogy to Nazi Germany in the 1930s with this ad wasn't even made by Republicans.

And while El-Sayed keeps mentioning AIPAC at a time when he gets millions from others, Stevens proved that she is about principles.

D. Above all, Nellis/ El-Sayed line as if this were still about the primaries, was promoted, overlooking the fact that Stevens was ready to campaign with El-Sayed if he would simply reject the bigotry.

By the next day, October 31, CNN had already fully promoted Mike Nellis’s talking point. Worse, it camouflaged and sugarcoated the vile ad, describing it merely as “criticism of aid to Israel”:

The CNN ticker described it as an “advertisement criticizing United States’ aid to Israel.”

And the article was framed this way:

“Michigan Democratic unity teeters as Abdul El-Sayed tells primary rival to stay away from his events. This comes as El-Sayed brushed off Rep. Haley Stevens after she called on him to denounce an outside group’s anti-Israel ad.”

And quoted Nellis: "Mike Nellis: 'I think it's sour grapes from Haley Stevens... "

A reminder from a famous Democrat who worked for Obama, Van Jones:

Let me state a little-known fact: ISRAEL GETS LESS THAN 0.1 PERCENT OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET. That’s less than one tenth of a percent!

But there is an ad running that tells voters they can’t afford groceries because the United States gives so much money to Israel. In reality, the United States spends money in and on countries all around the world – but this ad singles out the Jewish state. The ad is as dangerous as it is dishonest.

You can disagree with how the United States spends money abroad. But telling hungry families that the Jewish state is the reason they are suffering is wrong and shameful.

Blaming Jews for people’s problems is an old story. Anybody who has read the last century of history knows where it leads. It is a dark pathway.

This ad is anti-Jewish hate and should come down immediately. Abdul El-Sayed should denounce it today.

To be fair, The Situation Room's Pamela Brown was spot on interviewingwith Rep. Debbie Dingell reminding that the ad was deemed hateful.

Finally, it's worth mentioning, as it was published in Newsweek [https://www.newsweek.com/haley-stevens-fiance-escalates-el-sayed-feud-days-before-midterms-12644987]:

A spokesperson for his Republican opponent Mike Rogers accused El-Sayed’s allies of “anti-Israel hate,” while the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) called the ad a “case study in antisemitism.”...

Stevens also called on El-Sayed, who would become the nation's first Muslim U.S. senator if elected, to apologize for his own comments connecting U.S. spending on Israel with Michigan’s affordability problems and to remove a separate campaign advertisement featuring conservative commentator Tucker Carlson “out of the same respect for Michigan’s Black community.”

“Abdul promises to get money out of politics,” Stevens said in a statement. “He can begin by getting Israel out of his explanation for everything Michigan cannot afford.”

Despite the public dispute, Stevens continues to support El-Sayed and has said she intends to vote for him over Rogers. However, Turkish said he's voting for the Republican.

“Like a lot of households across America, we're a household divided,” the congresswoman said on CNN. “I still very much want our Democratic nominee, his name is Abdul, to win this race, there's so much on the line. I want our Democrats to win; I want to see Abdul do the right thing here.”

Meanwhile, El-Sayed's campaign has reportedly asked Stevens not to attend his remaining campaign events, according to two sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Politico.

What Jason Turkish Said:

During an interview appearance on Fox & Friends on Saturday, Turkish, who is Jewish and a civil rights attorney, said his fiancé "has made it clear to anyone who will listen that she remains on Team Dem,” adding that Stevens' "only ask, small ask, was to say that we not blame all of society’s high costs on one group of people.”

“We spend only a few billion dollars a year, and I say that in quotes, on support for a very strategic ally in the Middle East,” Turkish said. “If we chose not to do that tomorrow, that's not enough money to solve hunger in America, or healthcare in America or rebuild our schools in America. But yet, Abdul tells folks that that's what stands in our way.”

Turkish also accused the Senate hopeful of using rhetoric that endangers Jewish people.

“And it puts Jews at risk,” he said. “And my phone has just rung off the hook for days and days now with Jewish friends and family members in Michigan and beyond, around the world, just besides themselves, that it has come to this.”

Earlier this week, Turkish told The Detroit News that he had seen what he described as “an escalation” in El-Sayed’s rhetoric since the primary and argued that it was making Jewish residents less safe. He added: “Every time he talks about genocide [in Gaza], Jews get death threats.”

Turkish also told the newspaper that he would vote for Rogers in what he described as a decision to put “country before party.”

In response to the PRI reporter’s tweet, Lourdes Garcia-Navarro told her colleague that the material was “sadly” fake:

@matthewjbell fake, sadly.
