Let's Examine Mass Killings in Recent History and Islamism

  • Sudan, 1953–2004: Some 4 million dead.

Racism and Islamism in Khartoum... Perhaps the most destructive civil conflict since World War II and one of the longest wars in Africa's history, it saw the Christian and animist South pitted against the Muslim, Arab-speaking North. As many as 2.5 million people have died since the second phase of the civil war began in 1983—and likely more than four million if we consider its earlier phase (1955–72).

  • Intra-Arab Muslim conflict, North Yemen (1962–1970): 200,000.

"Since 1965, the Libyan-backed Front for the Liberation of Occupied South Yemen and the National Liberation Front had unleashed brutal violence on British forces in the south. In the end, the conflict claimed some 200,000 lives ."

  • Anti-Igbo Christian genocide in Nigeria: 3 million , 1967–70 (Biafra).

  • 1979-2024: almost a quarter of a million dead at the hand of radical Islam. Including some 3,000 in the US on 911, and Arab Muslim "Palestinians" were dancing on the street to gloat.

  • Uganda under Islamic Idi Amin, 1971–79: 300,000.

  • Ethiopia (Tigray War): An estimated 500,000 to 600,000 deaths from direct violence and related famine between 2020 and 2022.

  • Muslim Somali Civil War (2009–present): Estimated 500,000+ deaths, including deaths from famine and disease.

  • Syria: 618,000 to 700,000 deaths by Alawite-Shiite, Hezbollah, Islamic Relublic of Iran forces and Sunni Islamists between 2011 and 2024.

  • (Russia–Ukraine: Current estimates cited here put deaths at approximately 400,000, with up to 1.8 million casualties between 2022 and 2026).

Islamic Republic of Iran: Massacres of Its Own Citizens

Before 2026: Some 140,000.

January 2026: Some 37,000 or 80,000 .

No. 1 Is...

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

The total death toll of the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is estimated at more than 6 million people since the regional wars began in 1996. This makes it one of the deadliest humanitarian disasters in the world.

The modern conflict features distinct death tolls driven by separate rebel factions, alongside a severe humanitarian crisis.

Modern Rebel Violence

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF / ISCAP): The militant Islamist group kills hundreds of civilians each year through targeted village massacres, attacks on night vigils, and church attacks. Organizations such as the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) recorded at least 450 civilian deaths attributed to the ADF in just the first quarter of 2025. Individual massacres, such as the April 2026 attack in Bafwakoa and the September 2025 slaughter in Ntoyo, routinely claim between 40 and 100 lives per incident.

The M23 Rebel Offensive: The Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group launched major territorial offensives in late 2024 and early 2025, culminating in the capture of Goma. UN estimates indicate that 900 to 2,000 people were killed in that specific offensive alone. Ongoing operations involving heavy artillery and drones have resulted in thousands of additional casualties, including a single multi-week period in late 2025 that claimed roughly 1,500 civilian lives.

The Broader Humanitarian Crisis

Data tracked by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) demonstrates that less than 10% of total deaths in the DRC conflict are caused by direct physical violence. The overwhelming majority of the death toll is driven by war-induced deprivation.

Disease & Malnutrition: Massive displacement—with 5.7 million people internally displaced—has shattered the region's healthcare and agricultural systems. Preventable and treatable conditions such as malaria, diarrhoea, pneumonia, and severe malnutrition act as the primary silent killers.

Total Deaths in Congo: 5.4 Million

With Christians particularly targeted by Muslims.
