Typical: Husam Zomlot, Giddy Happy Genocide-Libel Promoter: A Bad-Faith Propagandist and Performative Accuser
Husam Zomlot Promotes Genocide Libel on Amanpour. By Karen Bekker, January 28, 2025. CAMERA.
The article by Karen Bekker, published by CAMERA on January 28, 2025, criticizes Palestinian Authority representative Husam Zomlot’s January 22, 2025, interview with Christiane Amanpour on CNN.
The main points are:
Zomlot repeatedly and falsely described Israel’s war in Gaza as a supposed “genocide.” He relied on disputed casualty figures while omitting Hamas’s role in the war.
He portrayed Israel as the fundamental cause of the conflict, claiming that Hamas was a “product” rather than a cause of the conflict and characterizing Israel’s military campaign as ideological rather than motivated by security concerns. In fact, the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack triggered the war.
Amanpour is accused of failing to challenge these claims. The interview largely allowed Zomlot to present his narrative without addressing counterarguments, including Palestinian political decisions and Hamas’s responsibility for violence.
Bekker challenges Zomlot’s claim that Israel prevents Palestinian democracy, pointing to the Palestinian Authority’s cancellation of planned elections in 2021 and Hamas’s victory in the 2006 Palestinian legislative elections.
Zomlot’s most revealing statement came when he was discussing the “root cause” of the conflict. He said that “Israel has got to go,” before Amanpour reframed his statement as referring to the “occupation.” In fact, this can be interpreted as evidence that Zomlot’s position goes beyond opposition to Israeli policies and amounts to opposition to Israel’s existence.
Zomlot’s rhetoric ultimately appears more closely aligned with Hamas’s objectives than with a conventional two-state framework.

ZOMLOT:
“...And you know, I sat on this chair on the 7th of October, Christiane, on the 7th of October, and I came here to your show to warn the world that Israel will wage a war against the Palestinian people, and look at the results.
“Look at the last 15 months and how do we learn the lessons. I mean, I was reading a U.N. report today...
“And therefore, moving straight from this point is where we learned the lesson and we, the Palestinian people, are done explaining our situation.
“We’re done explaining our situation. We need to move forward and we need to use the momentum now and turn this tragedy into an opportunity.”
Zomlot’s demeanor.
Why would anyone appear giddy and smiling while promoting what critics characterize as false “genocide” propaganda?
Zomlot clearly appeared to be smiling rather than displaying sorrow while discussing the consequences of the war.
“As you know, I sat in this chair on October 7. Yes, I remember.”
“And look at the results.”
